Workhouse have been working closely with Blackburn Youth Zone since the plans to build a state of the art youth centre in the heart of Blackburn were announced. Workhouse are providing marketing for Blackburn Youth Zone and this includes our photography services. Recently we’ve been doing location photography for them which includes the photos below of the site mid build.

Product Photography: The Whalley Wine Shop

Workhouse has been shooting the images for The Whalley Wine Shop’s Christmas 2011 catalogue/brochure. We do a lot of product photography for The Whalley Wine Shop, having previously shot their Christmas and Summer brochures.

This year was as busy as ever, with a lot of products to shoot and a very quick turn around required – shooting and editing over 100 bottles in a matter of days in order to meet the deadlines.

We thrive on a challenge and love working to tight deadlines!

Wedding Fashion shoot: Mitton Hall.

On Monday 21st November we were asked to do a wedding fashion shoot for one of our clients, Mitton Hall’s wedding advertising campaign.

The wedding fashion shoot took place at Mitton Hall and featured two excellent models, James Hogg and Debora Pucci. The brief was to create a series of interesting and visually compelling images to promote the romantic side of Mitton Hall, to affluent young couples who are planning on getting married. The only restrictions as far as the brief were concerned was that the images must convey love and show the romance of the ‘old hall’ – and make potential brides and grooms want to choose Mitton Hall as the perfect venue for their special day.

From a technical point of view the shoot consisted of 3 Profoto lights and various lighting modifiers. The main light was the Acute B 600 head with either a Softlight reflector white (with and without grid) or a 2.3′ gold Octa. The other lighting was provided by a separate Acute 2400R pack with two heads and standard reflectors.

Photographer Andrew Woodhouse said:

“Working on location for this shoot meant we needed a dependable light source with consistent quality and absolute reliability. With Profoto gear I know it’s going to work, every time. The small size of the Acute 600b meant it was ideal for the often tight shooting conditions at the hotel.

The quality of light is one of the main things that stands out about Profoto kit and I fell in love with the light from the gold Octa – it’s got a nice warmth to it, but also has a wrapping quality that proved perfect for the shoot. Using that in combination with the Softlight white meant we had several different options available to us, all in a small, light weight and portable package. It was undoubtedly a team effort with Jamie art directing, James and Debora modelling and Amy assisting.

I’m very happy with the results and really really pleased with the performance of the Profoto kit over the 6 hour shoot’

Product Shots for Daniel Thwaites.

We’ve been doing a lot of product shots for Lancashire Brewery Daniel Thwaites over the past month.

The shots have ranged from the more simple single bottle shots through to more elaborate group shots.

We were asked by Thwaites to create a new style of product shots which could be used across the whole range of beers, ales and lagers that they produce. The shots needed to be simple, clean and elegant and were to be used across a variety of media.

Portrait photography: Model Shoots.

Earlier this week Workhouse photography Andrew Woodhouse helped run a portrait night at local photography club, Preston Photographic Society. Andrew, who is an active member of the club was asked to provide guidance in setting up the lighting and to provide some help and support to some of the less experienced members who attended.

The shoot was a little different than the usual portrait nights at the club as the model Lisa Osaka Whitham was waring a series of gothic themed outfits.

It was decided that a black background would compliment the choice of model and outfits and the lighting consisted of a clamshell beauty set up combined with a couple of rim lights.

We even managed to persuade fellow club member and photographer Danny McCormick to model during an outfit change for Lisa.

Location Photography: The Whalley Wine Shop

Here’s some recent images from a recent location photography shoot we’ve done for The Whalley Wine Shop. Tom (The Whalley Wine Shop Manager) had asked us for some new photography for use on their website, he wanted the images shooting in black and white to help create some more arty images – focusing on the details and features in the shop.

This is more of a fine art approach than they’ve had in the past and the images look really good, with a greater sense of depth and mood to them, showing the shop off in the best light. This approach reflects the nature of the shop, being a specialised retailer of wine, with great customer service and attention to detail (things you don’t always get from larger chains).

Although we’ve been out on location a lot recently, shooting images for the Pleckgate prospectus amongst other things, we’ve still managed to get some studio time in. Workhouse Studios commercial photographer Andrew Woodhouse recently shot images of designer Graham Slater’s new son Max.

Graham and his wife Kat wanted some new, modern, contemporary images of Max as a baby. It was a great shoot and here’s a couple of our favourites.

Location Photography: Pleckgate School.

We’ve been shooting a lot of location work recently and this week has included a location shoot at the newly built Pleckgate School in Blackburn. Pleckgate have just had a new state of the art school built, from the ground up, and wanted some new photography – focusing on architectural details.
